The Aquaculture Laboratory is a satellite oceanographic laboratory of ISMER’s a few kilometers east of Rimouski on the St. Lawrence Estuary shore. The laboratory is equipped with a powerful seawater pumping system to carry out cutting-edge research in aquaculture, marine biology, and ecotoxicology year round. The lab offers a number of research services, including seawater, freshwater, and compressed air to keep marine and freshwater organisms alive in retaining ponds ; an instrumentation laboratory with basic equipment (microscope, magnifying glass, particle counter, scales, etc.) ; experiment rooms ; a basin room ; a greenhouse with natural light ; temperature-controlled rooms ; and related facilities (warehouse, workshop, etc.). The Aquaculture Laboratory is a key research tool for UQAR-ISMER researchers working in disciplines where access to water is essential. The number of projects, researchers, and students welcomed by the Aquaculture Laboratory, as well as the number of national and international partnerships it is involved with, are all testament to the important role it plays in ISMER’s mission.
