Modeling sea ice algae-phytoplankton-krill larva interactions during fall and winter in Antarctic coastal waters
Feeding of larval krill during their first winter is critical to their survival and the possibilité of recruitment into the adult population the following austral summer. In a modeling effort we have estimated the effect of krill larvae feeding from the water column or from sea ice on survival and physiological condition. Results show that food availability as well as timing in the availability of resources influence winter larval survival.
